How To Search Recent Taylor County Arrest Records & Find Mugshots for Free

The Florida Sunshine Law affords you the right to access recent arrest records in Taylor County and throughout the state.1 However, you need to know what information you need to provide to access this information and where to look.

As far as the type of information you need, you will want to have the person’s full name, approximate date of incident and location where it occurred. If available, the person’s address or physical description may also be helpful in conducting your search.

Once you have gathered this information, you need to know where to look for these arrest records. A citizen can conduct a search of recent arrests using the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Search Tool.2 When you first navigate to this page, you will see a list of all inmates that have been booked in the last 24 hours.

To search for a particular person, you can look by their name. If you know approximately when they were arrested, you can narrow down your search by setting a booking date range. There is also one last option to search all inmates, those currently in custody or individuals that have been released from jail.

The results will provide you with arrest information for each matching individual. You can see the person’s name, mugshot, sex, age, race and their address.

There is also information on their current custody status (e.g., in jail), booking number and date, bond amount and the current cell they are assigned in. If the offender is in custody, you can also view if they are allowed visitation and the available times to visit them.

Below this summary is information on the specific charges brought against the person. For each charge, a citizen can view the criminal statute, description of the crime and the degree and level of offense. You can also view the arresting agency, officer(s) involved and any information on bonds and fees directly related to the specific charge.

For more in-depth details about a person’s prior arrests and offenses, you can learn in the next section how to access their entire criminal record in Taylor County.

How To Retrieve Information on Prior Criminal Activity & Arrests Made Within Taylor County Florida

An offender’s criminal record will detail prior arrests, convictions and related information.

To search for an offender’s criminal record, you can often locate cases using an online search tool provided by the Court or Clerk’s Office. However, in Taylor County, they do not provide an online search tool for accessing criminal cases.

As a result, if you want to access information on prior arrests and criminal charges, you will have to contact the record custodian directly. When it comes to criminal records, you can request them in person by contacting the responsible court that adjudicated the case. In Taylor County, criminal matters, depending on the type, are adjudicated with two different courts.

Felonies are serious criminal offenses (e.g., murder, manslaughter, armed robbery) that carry a minimum one-year sentence or greater. Felony cases are handled by the Taylor County Circuit Court.6 Misdemeanors are minor criminal offenses (e.g., trespassing, harassment, petty theft) and are handled by the Taylor County Clerk.

If you want access to either type of record, consider starting your inquiry by reaching out to the Taylor County Clerk of Court.7 You can call the Clerk’s Office at 850-838-3506 or go in person to the address below:

Taylor County Clerk of Court
108 N. Jefferson St., Ste. 102
Perry, Florida 32348

The Clerk’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This address is also the same for the two different courts that oversee these criminal cases.

One last option at the county level to consider is submitting a formal Public Records Request.8 When preparing your request, make sure to provide as much detailed information as you can. This may include the person’s name, address or case number.

If you know the types of charges that were brought against the person or other related information, you can include that as well. Public record requests can be submitted in person or by mail to the address below:

Taylor County Administrative Complex
Attn: Traci Rowell/Public Records Request
201 E. Green St.
Perry, Florida 32347

In some counties, municipal courts operate at the city level and handle limited criminal matters. That is not the case in Taylor, where all criminal matters are handled at the county level. That being said, there are tools to search throughout Florida at once for a person’s prior criminal activity.

A great resource for conducting a statewide search is the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) Inmate Search Tool.9 This search tool allows you to access criminal records by providing an offender’s name (including any aliases) or their Department of Corrections (DOC) number. You can use this tool to find information on current and released inmates.

After you enter your search criteria, you can select to search current inmates, fugitives, those who were released and individuals released but currently under supervision (e.g., probation or parole).

Once you make this selection, the results page will provide you the name, Department of Corrections number, sex, race and date of birth for all matching criminal records. In addition, depending on what’s applicable, you can view either their release date or the facility they are currently incarcerated at.

When you click on an offender’s name, you can view their complete online criminal record. Here, you can view a summary of the information provided on the results page, along with their sentencing information and mugshot.

The online criminal record also contains the individual’s complete incarceration history. Here you can view the start and end date for all sentences the individual served. You can also view their detainer history.

The last two sections contain the defendant’s prior and current sentencing history. Here, you can find an itemized list of all charges the person was convicted of, along with a description of the offense, where it occurred and when. In addition, you have access to their case number and the sentence that was issued by the judge.

In this final section, you will learn about posting bail in Taylor County and the different options you may choose from if you are looking to assist someone that was recently arrested.

How To Pay Bail After an Arrest in Taylor County

You may be in a situation where you find out that a friend or loved one is currently in custody for pending criminal charges. If they are unable to post their own bail, you may want to assist them. However, how you assist them will depend on the person you are bailing out and your own financial situation.

Posting bail can be an expensive and risky decision. The more serious the offense, among other factors, the higher the bail amount to be set by the judge. Another major factor that the judge considers when setting bail is whether they believe the defendant is likely to show up for future court hearings.

Before you make any decisions, consider the various ways in which you can assist a person in posting bail.

The first option is to post a cash bond in the amount the bail is set at. If you do not have enough available in liquid assets, you can also consider posting a property bond. First, you will have to make sure you have enough equity in the property. If you do, a lien will be placed against the property as collateral for the bond.

Whether you use a cash or property bond, the benefit of this option is that you get everything back as long as the defendant continues to show up for future court hearings. Of course, the downside is they do not show up, and you forfeit the amount you posted as their bond.

Your other choice is to request the services of a bail bondsman. A bondsman handles the entire process and is also responsible for taking on the risk if a defendant does not show up for a court hearing.

The charge for this service is typically 10% of whatever the bail amount is set at. While there is less risk involved, the 10% fee may be costly depending on what the bail amount is.

There is no perfect option for posting bail, and you will have to choose the option that works best in your current situation.
