How To Conduct an Arrest Records Search for Free in Taylor County Florida
Taylor County arrest records are a great resource for finding out why an arrestee is incarcerated and related information.
A record seeker can perform an inmate search, which covers individuals arrested throughout the county. An online inmate search tool can be used to find someone’s mugshot and details about the offense and their arrest.
If you do not know what agency made the arrest but have the subject’s name, a county-level search is likely your best option.
If you know the arresting agency, you can also request an arrest or police report. These reports will provide detailed information about the circumstances surrounding the arrest, and information that may be necessary if you are filing an insurance or legal claim.
Seeking out information from the arresting agency is also a great option if the matter is urgent and the subject was arrested within the last day. Often, the county does not have the information available until after 24 hours.
The below steps will walk you through how to search for arrest records and police reports with the county jail and local law enforcement agencies.
Look Up Arrest Records via the Taylor County Jail Inmate Search Tool
A record seeker can find information on Taylor County bookings by performing an online inmate search. This online search tool is provided by the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, which is responsible for managing individuals arrested in this county.
The home page for this search tool provides a searcher with a list of all individuals booked in the last 24 hours. To use this search tool to find someone else, a record seeker can enter the person’s name along with a booking date range. Searchers also have the option of limiting their search to either current or released inmates.
Once a requester performs a search, they can view the offender’s mugshot along with information related to their arrest and incarceration. This includes their current status (e.g., in jail or released), booking information (date and number) and bond information. You can also view the offender’s specific cell location and visitation information.
For information on the charge(s), there is a separate section where you can view the criminal statute alleged to be violated, along with the court date and the arresting officer.

Run a Background Check on Anybody in Taylor County
One way to view public records in Taylor County is by obtaining a background check report.
While using online tools or performing a Taylor County case search may be helpful, this type of personal background check has limited use. Sometimes, a citizen has a need or is requested to consent to a professional background check.
A professional background check is a broad category that includes an official report of a person’s history (usually criminal) for some business or legal reason. An individual may request a background check from a prospective employee or tenant or may be required by state law for their current employees if they work with certain vulnerable groups.
Depending on what it is needed for and the availability, a background check report can provide information at the county, city, state and federal levels. In addition, background checks can be conducted using a name-based search or, for more accurate results, by using an individual’s fingerprints.
There are no specific options available at the Taylor County or city agency level. To get a background check in Taylor County, you must use a state resource and request one with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).9 The FDLE provides multiple options for requesting a background check, whether you are an individual or an entity.
Here are the three different background check options provided by the FDLE and a brief summary of how they can be used and by whom:10
Instant Search: As the name suggests, this background check request allows a record seeker to search and receive criminal records maintained by the FDLE instantly. Once an instant search is completed, an individual’s results will be sent to them via email.
Certified or Non-Certified Search: An individual can request a name-based search by mail or in person. If the record is for official business or legal reasons, you will want to request a certified search. Search requests must include your identifying information and that of the subject you are searching for.
When providing information, you can enter various names and aliases for the FDLE to search. If you are mailing your request, you can send it to the following address:
Florida Department of Law Enforcement
Criminal History Services
ATTN: VECHS
P.O. Box 1489
Tallahassee, Florida 32302
If you want to bring your request in person, or you want to talk to someone about the background check report process, you can go to the address below:
Florida Department of Law Enforcement
2331 Phillips Rd.
Tallahassee, Florida 32308
ORI Search: Certain entities and state agencies authorized by statute can use this option to request a background check report.
The FDLE charges $24.00 for a background check report. For questions about what type of background check you need and related information, you can contact the FDLE by phone at 850-410-8161 or by email at [email protected]. They are available to answer your questions from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Rights & Responsibilities of Citizens When Accessing Taylor County Public Records
At this point, you now understand what types of records you can search, how to access them and the tools you need to accomplish this. This final section will inform a record seeker how to properly use these public records by understanding the rights and responsibilities that come with this access.
What you can do with the information you find and what requirements a searcher must follow will depend on whether they are using the public records for personal or professional use. The ethical and legal use of public records varies greatly between these two categories.
Professional use is typically done by companies, government agencies and other individuals that have official business or legal reasons for accessing these records. Below are examples of using public records for professional reasons.
Business Reasons: Confirming information provided by a potential employee or renter.
Legal Reasons: Adoption, working with vulnerable age groups (e.g., elderly or children) and compliance with various state and federal laws.
Privileges: Request for firearm license or security clearance.
There are other situations, but these are some of the most popular reasons. When using records for professional use, your first step is to receive the written consent of the individual you are searching. If a record seeker misses this step, they can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for fraud.23
You can also be reported if you take negative action against someone you are searching for (e.g., deny their rental application) without giving them proper legal notice.
Public records contain a significant amount of personal and identifying information. If a searcher uses this information to discriminate against an individual because of their criminal record or being a part of some protected class, the aggrieved party can file a claim online with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
When accessing consumer information, an individual must also comply with the regulations set forth in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The FCRA provides several rights to people when this type of information is accessed. For example, a person has the right to know what’s included in their file and can dispute any information they believe to be inaccurate or incomplete.24
Personal use is a lot less restrictive and describes the informal search of records to find out more about someone. For personal use, you do not have the same requirement of obtaining the subject’s consent.
In fact, all of the laws mentioned above are not applicable when you are using public records for personal use. The only requirement is that a searcher does not use these public records to take any criminal action. Public records can not be used to stalk, harass or violate any other state or federal criminal statute.
If you are conducting a search of records for personal use and you cannot find a way to access the record, you may have to submit a FOIA request. Government agencies must respond in a timely manner and provide you with any documents considered public records. However, be aware that government agencies can charge a requester for the time it takes to search and review these records.
As a record seeker, you now have the tools and resources you need to search a broad variety of public records, whether you need them for personal or professional use. Bookmark and refer back to this page for the steps and search tools you need whenever searching for Taylor County public records.
